Commentary As federal and state leadership work on plans to combat the coronavirus pandemic, a “hierarchal” trend is clearly developing

“Trump’s role in the death toll.”
It’s Easter Monday. I hope you all had a good holiday, participating in virtual religious services this weekend, virtual Seders last week and whatever else you did as best you could given this Covid-19 disruption of all our lives.
Well, the weekend is over and this morning I awoke to a flurry of articles and opinion pieces, mostly in the New York Times and The Washington Post (you might better know them as the “fake news” or “Trump-hating LSM {Lame Stream Media}) detailing the lies, the denials, the delays in action, and then, the wrong actions taken by Trump and his administration before and during this crisis.
We Live in the Worst Country in the World!
How can I say the United States of America is the worst country in the world when there are dozens of poor, devastated countries with hungry, sick, oppressed people? When there are countries run by tin-pot dictators whose only devotion is to their own power and to their own self-enrichment?
“The notion of the federal stockpile was it’s supposed to be our stockpile. It’s not supposed to be states’ stockpiles that they then use.”
My intention was to make this Around the Block the shortest in history.
Jared Kushner, גענוג!*
(*Genug, Yiddish for “enough,” something I’m sure the orthodox Kushner would understand.)
That was going to be it.
But then, as a public service, I thought I’d provide a little context.
‘Draft Cuomo 2020’ groundswell emerges amid the NY governor’s coronavirus response
ABC News reported, “As the number of Americans impacted by the deadly coronavirus continues to climb, some voters looking for decisive action are turning to state leaders for guidance– chief among them, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, whose daily press conferences and emphatic communication style has gradually captivated audiences across the nation over the last month.
“Ardent supporters of Cuomo are seeking to plant presidential seeds online…”
Donald Trump’s murder math: Any death toll under 2 million is a “very good job”
Today, I turn Around the Block over to Bob Cesca of Salon.com and his essay, “Donald Trump’s murder math: Any death toll under 2 million is a ‘very good job.'”
“They’re going out the back door!”
The conventional wisdom with Donald Trump is that at some point he’d hit bottom; he’d say or do something so dreadful, so vile, so nasty that it couldn’t be topped (well, actually, “bottomed”).
It’s possible that on Sunday he reached that bottom when he suggested that hospitals have been hoarding ventilators and that something more nefarious* may be afoot when it comes to their mask supplies.
Open Letter to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)
On Feb. 3, I sent a letter to Marco Rubio regarding his impeachment removal vote; I received his reply today. I wondered how he feels about that vote 8 weeks later. So, I wrote to him again.
Now we know: The conservative devotion to life ends at birth.
Some of you might remember MSNBC had a promotional tagline a few years ago, “We Watch Fox So You Don’t Have To.”
They dropped that line several years ago. But today, Max Boot, an Op-Ed columnist for The Washington Post, takes up the mantle.
Andrew Cuomo? Yes, Andrew Cuomo.
Note to readers: I’m calling this column the “Broken Record Edition.” Why? Because I’m writing again about a topic I opined on only a few days ago. As regular readers know, this space can sometimes be frivolous, bordering on silly. In fact some readers call the posts, “cute.” (I’m never sure how to take that “compliment.”) But this one is serious. You know, every recent presidential election has been called “the most important election in our lifetimes.” Guess what? This one really is that election – for one reason and one reason only: Donald Trump.
