Morning Joe: Why don’t we just stop pretending that we have the 25 Amendment?

Commentary

A few days ago I posted an Around the Block entitled, “25th Amendment Now! – We cannot wait any longer.” https://around-the-block.com/2020/04/24/25th-amendment-now/

Pipe dream? For sure. Wishful thinking? Of course. Ever going to happen? Not a chance.

Well this morning on Morning Joe host and former “movement Conservative,” Joe Scarborough, confirmed my worst thoughts, nailing the 25th Amendment’s coffin while burying the 10th Amendment as well.

JOE SCARBOROUGH, ‘MORNING JOE’ CO-HOST: If the last two weeks haven’t completely made null and void the 25th Amendment, if a president behaving this way while a pandemic sweeps across our country and kills more people, actually, than died in the Vietnam war, and the president just said a couple months earlier that it was just one person coming from China… Let me just say, the 25th amendment is de facto abolished.

The massive growth of government, in effect, made void, for all practical purposes, the 10th Amendment. You can add the 25th Amendment to that right now because this president is behaving in a way that is so dangerous, extraordinarily irrational, in the middle of a pandemic that is changing history, that is destroying our economy day by day, that’s killing people, especially seniors, day by day, that’s killing people, especially seniors, day by day.

If it were ever going to be used, it’d be used now. It is not going to be used, so why don’t we just stop pretending that we have a 25th Amendment? We really, for all practical purposes, we don’t.

Scarborough has talked about invoking the 25th Amendment at least twice before on his show, in October and January. And Friday, frequent Morning Joe contributor Mike Barnicle added his support.

I guess Joe and Mika, and Mike and I will just have to keep dreaming as the Trump nightmare perseveres.

And then, hopefully, wait for the election and in January watch in glee as Federal Marshalls drag Trump out of the White House, kicking and screaming.

    1. Lots of people are screaming. Screaming like Howard Beale in the film “Network,” — ‘I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take this anymore!’ Of course, Beale was ultimately assassinated! Ah, well, he did his part! But just to be cautious when you’re screaming, don’t scream out an open window. And remember Howard Beale.
