Never has Yakov Smirnoff’s tagline been more appropriate: “What a Country”
In today’s “News of the Day – From Across the Nation” section, the San Francisco Chronicle reported:
Biden/Harris threat: A man in Maryland has been arrested on charges that he threatened to kidnap and kill Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential nominee, and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, law enforcement officials said Wednesday. A criminal complaint filed by the Secret Service did not describe any steps taken by the man, identified as James Dale Reed, to carry out the alleged threat. It said that on Oct. 4, Reed approached a house in his hometown, Frederick, Md., northwest of Washington, that had Biden-Harris campaign signs in the yard and left a handwritten note that contained graphic threats against the candidates and their supporters. Reed, 42, was arrested Friday and is being held without bond in Frederick County.
This, of course, follows similar plots to kidnap and bring to trial Democratic governors Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and Ralph Northam of Virginia.
Why is this happening? Here’s a thought. Because of remarks of the sitting President of the United States:
- “Governor Whitmer of Michigan has done a terrible job. She locked down her state for everyone, except her husband’s boating activities.”
- “LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!” “LIBERATE VIRGINIA!”
- “That Biden family and others, but that Biden family is corrupt, a corrupt family. We should lock him up. Lock up the Biden’s. Lock up Hillary.”
- “This monster (VP nominee and Senator Kamala Harris) that was on stage with Mike Pence, who destroyed her last night, by the way, but this monster.” “Totally unlikable. She’s a communist.”

In the immortal words of Ukrainian-American comedian, Yakov Smirnoff, “America: What a country!
Maybe more ironic than immortal. Oh, right, Trump and crowd don’t get ironic.
Amazing that every morning when I wake I find that what can’t get worse, somehow gets worse!!! It is mind numbing.

It is mind numbing. For me, at least, writing is my way of venting the frustration I feel.

I listened to Dr. Watson last night on a Zoom call with the Palm Beach Democratic Club. He was great! He gave historical and constitutional facts on what could and could not happen. However, he said that he is so depressed about what Trump is doing along with his enablers that he has started drinking. Now whether that was for comic relief or not that’s the way all rational people are feeling.

I’m surprised he’s just starting. May I suggest, on the next Zoom, in the Q&A, that you tell him to this great Scotch I’ve discovered, “Monkey Shoulder.” A few “wee drams” will make all the angst worthwhile!

Ahh…so it’s no longer “A wee dram”, rather “A few wee drams”…completely understandable.
So Teddy, ‘Monkey Shoulder?…you still drinking blended Whisky? Sheesh. 😉

Yes, my friend…but blended completely for single malts. Yes, for some, any blend is a copout. But it’s really good. Ah well, I guess I’ll simply but you in the “for some” column. Cheers!

“Oh, right, Trump and crowd don’t get ironic”…and that in a nutshell, my dear boy, and fellow AtB readers, is one of the main things wrong with our country, and much of the world these days. So when trumpolini says that he was being sarcastic about some remark he made, we know he’s fabricating, because we have a president who doesn’t have a sense of humor! And the only time he ever smiles, is when he’s made some outrageous remark, and his acolytes cheer.
Without a sense of humor, none of us would have survived the insanity of ‘civilization as we know it.’
‘What a country’…indeed.
