Trump: “Get rid of ballots”

Commentary

Are you ready to man the barricades?

In response to a reporter’s question tonight, “Win, lose or draw in this election, will you commit here today for a peaceful transferal of power after the election?”, President Donald John Trump (I) said,

“We’re going to have to see what happens. We want to get rid of the ballots, and we’ll have a very peaceful — there won’t be a transfer, frankly. There’ll be a continuation.”

Let me put that down again in bold black and white.

The sitting President of the United States, running in a reelection campaign, said 43 days before the election: “get rid of the ballots” and “there won’t be a transfer.”

As of this writing, no sycophantic, mealy mouthed, spineless elected Republican has commented on this outrageous statement. I’d be surprised if any do comment tomorrow, or the next day, or at all.

As I, and I hope all of you, contemplate our next steps, I leave you with this – the song of revolution from “Les Miserables.”

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again

When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free

Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance
Some will fall and some will live
Will you stand up and take your chance?
The blood of the martyrs
Will water the meadows of France

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again

When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes

A song from a musical, but, given what we heard tonight, incredibly instructive.

  • Are you ready to join the crusade, to be strong and stand with us?
  • Is there’s a world you long to see and are you ready to join the fight to see it?
  • Are you prepared to give all you can give?
  • Because if you’re not, it might be too late when tomorrow comes.

This is serious folks. Everyday it get worse, more disgraceful. Short of “manning the barricades, what’s the response? What’s the answer?

What Trump is proposing cannot happen, will not happen.

How do we make sure it cannot happen, will not happen? Let me know what you think. Let your elected officials know what you think. And then get your “barricade manning” outfit ready…I think you’ll need it.

  1. Pathetic behavior by this amoral man who purports to be our President! So sad to see our country so divided…..Civil War revisited——potential for a violent confrontation?!
